I am awful at keeping this updated. I need people to poke me about it. It'd be easier to do if I knew that more than one person read it. This one is shorter as I need to get to bed, haha.
Anyway, without further ado -
1. !Viva La Gloria! - Green Day
Green Day have their own Rock Band out soon, which is a pretty impressive achievement. Well, this starts off with some lovely cheerful piano, and then take a big scoop of punk rock ice-cream and smothers it in pop sensibility sauce. Mm, delicious.
2. Hero Of War - Rise Against
Punk and politics. Politics and punk. They're totally intwined, however you look at it. Punks protest, and they take guitars with them. Here's an anti-war song, with acoustic guitar and lyrics that'll make you think. Don't get me wrong - I think that all soldiers are such brave individuals and I respect them, but I'm anti-conflict.
3. These Days, I Have Nothing - We Are The Ocean
Yes. You're right. I'm here, recommending We Are The Ocean, a band who I have maligned numerous times, mainly in person more than online. Doomed to be an eternal support band I feel for them, I really do. But here. Have some Alexisonfire-eque tuneage, with a lovely raw/clean vocal mix.
4. Just Don't Feel The Same - The Mission District
Oh yeah. You can just feel the eighties and the glowsticks. It's pretty basic and totally has the whole it-doesn't-need-to-be-clever-to-be-catchy ethic down pat. Plus, they're Canadian. And everyone knows that Canada is full of good bands.
5. My Disease - A Skylit Drive
... What are these guys? Metalcore? Emocore? Rock...core? They definitely seem like a something-core. With the whole screamo/lyrical thing down pat, some pretty awesome drumming and either an epic falsetto guy or a high-pitched girl, there's a pretty good voice on show here too.
6. Aberdeen 1987 - The Xcerts
It's one of those happy-go-lucky reminiscing songs on an acoustic guitar. Only with a really thick Scottish accent - seriously, what is it with Scottish bands at the moment? - and some bitterness under it. People change, and this song really sums it up.
